wow this was fantastic.. I don't think I have the words to put together right now to describe how it felt watching this until I have seen it a second time and also have had some time to think on it, there are so really great things in this film but for now I will say --
the score was so good, omg, the violin bouncing back and forth was amazing and added so much to it post reveal.
the lighting was nice in a few scenes, a red light in the back of a helicopter, the camera moving in the hallway pretty early on, the color grading in this film was pretty great, I liked the muted colors vs warm colors
the story, particularly structure is what stands out here, the way it moves and flows together furthers the story, the story itself is pretty great.
Amy Addams obviously is very great in this film, bringing a truly great performance that is full of subtleties and nuance same with Jeremy Renner he does a really great job as well, I really liked Forest Whitaker from the first moment he is on screen I was like wow he is doing a really great job.
notes below
-------------------------------
- I've committed to an hour with of paramount plus crashing.
- I like the slow moving score, the violin moving back and forth is nice.
- I like this shot of her walking in the hall.
- also Amy Addams is gonna wreck me in this I can tell.
- the tv behind the white board, that's sick, good sound design.
- I like the push in on these shots of her coming home, nice touch.
- cool location for Amy Addams house.
- I like how subtle time is passing during these news coverage points.
- I like the sound design on this scene with the helicopter, it's loud so the characters are talking loud.
- I like the score for when we first see the ship, cool droning sound effects in the background.
- also really like that there was build up to seeing it for the first time, it creates this wonder when you see it, like WHOAH! LOOK AT THAT!
- I like the pacing for the movie so far, it's moving quick but slow, it's a nice pace.
- like this shot of them jumping up to stand on the side wall, it looks so cool.
- I like that the entrance is slightly off center.
- the sound design on the aliens communication is freaking sick, the rumbles in them, the low bass droning, so cool.
- I like that so far, each of these scenes are framed by the bird chirping.
- I like that the alarm has interrupted them pretty much every time.
- I like how stark the black is in the ink.
- I like the blocking on this shot of them sitting on the truck.
- I like how the pages crept in and then took over the scene, that was really great -- I like how each scene is interrupted before we cut back.
- that bomb scene was sooo cool, the tension and build up was amazing.
- aspect ratio change.
- wow that phone scene was a wonder, like truly that was how to craft a scene -- tension and story come clashing together along with characters and set dec, inspired.
- damn the score is so beautiful.
- I need to watch this a second time, wow, so much to process here.
