I have been really excited about this film since I heard that it was coming out. wish I had time during the holiday rush to check it out in theaters I really liked this movie! I wasn't in love with the editing at first but it grew on me.. I do feel it was paced a bit wierd.. a bit long at places but overall it was really good.. I haven't seen the original I did read the book a long time ago but it was not as fresh in my mind. this was amazing, shot really well starting to feel like it should have got something for cinematography. really want Danielle Brooks to win best supporting actress for this. she was amazing. so was everyone else in the cast they were just as amazing Fantasia Barrino was amazing and gave an emotional performance, Taraji P Henson gave a raw and complicated performance that makes you feel for her character, Coleman Domingo potrays a complicated character but he nails it and Corey Hawkins all stand outs!!

Notes Below
--------------
- the opening scene is wonderful! bright and vibrant colors! great choregraphy! great song direction!

- the cinematography is wonderfully shot. however I feel it falls a little flat with the edit, it feels like it moves too quick in the beginning of the film.

- I am biased. I love Deon Cole. I want to see him in more stuff.

- the music direction for this film is really great.

- great transtion from the scene talking about tea to the wedding!

- "Workin" was awesome and some pretty cool things happening in frame!

- Danielle Brooks really steals the show in every frame she is in. side note the background dancers in "Hell No" were killing me with the over acted dance moves lol also You’s A DAMN LIE

- the way the light spills in through the window during the bathtub scene is amazing!

- I wish that the song shug avery coming to town was shot in one shot! the way it started was fantastic I wish it kept with one long shot it would have been a show stealer, still the transtions are wonderful and make it kind of feel like one shot. there was just a whole lot going on it would have been col in one shot is what I am trying to say it would have been complicated to pull off I am sure so its good they cut it up but hey I can dream.

- each musical set piece is steller! a shock and aw to look at.

- PA GET UP - I jumped so high lol

- the sets look amazing! good background details!

- after the shaving the audio muffles out, great sound design.

- the dinner table scene was.. amazing.

- that one long shot when she is singing I'm here is amazing I'm glad it was all in one because a cut would have taken me out of it.

- what goofy pants he is wearing.

- that was one emotional reunion! god damn. tears.

going to watch the original and re read the book for sure.
